Water Taxi

KEY Oklahoma City

Spend your holiday exploring downtown Oklahoma City during the eighth annual Downtown in December winter celebration. Only in Downtown Oklahoma City can you experience the thrill of outdoor ice skating, exhilarating snow tubing rides, water taxi excursions, free museum Sundays, a magically-lit botanical garden and plenty of holiday cheer for the entire family! Festivities run through the New Year.

The grand lawn at the Civic Center Music Hall will transform into an icy entertainment zone when the popular Devon Ice Rink opens. The 62-foot by 150-foot rink is expected to attract more than 26,000 thrill-seeking skaters in 2009. Cost to skate is $8, which includes skate rental and a two-hour session. The Civic Center is located at 201 N Walker.

Go extreme this winter, when you go Snow Tubing at the Brick, the nation’s largest manmade snow tubing slope. Feel the wind in your face as you cruise down the slope from the ballpark’s upper deck all the way to second base on a hill of manmade snow. If that sounds too scary, a second, smaller and shorter slide is available for children and the less adventurous. Tubing is open through through January 4.

All aboard…for a free adventure cruise on a Bricktown Water Taxi during Holidays on the Canal. The colors of the season will reflect off the waters of the Bricktown Canal as you float by great restaurants and clubs, offering some of Oklahoma’s finest dining and entertainment. Ride free from 6-9:30 p.m. every Thursday through Sunday, December 27 (closed Christmas).

Bring the whole family Downtown to a day of culture, art and history during Free Museum Sundays. One of four participating Downtown museums will be open for free from 1 – 6 p.m. each Sunday. Participating museums include The National Memorial and Museum, American Banjo Museum, Oklahoma Heritage Museum, and the Museum of Art. On December 27, all of the participating museums will open for a free grand finale.

Thousands of glimmering twinkles of light mingle together to create a dramatic, holiday paradise in downtowns Myriad Botanical Gardens during OG&E Garden Lights. The Crystal Bridge will open free from 6 – 9 p.m. every Sunday through December 27 for special twilight viewings.

Rediscover Oklahoma City from a different point of view aboard a free Oklahoma River Holiday Cruise. Every Sunday from 1 – 6 pm, through December 27, guests can enjoy hot cocoa and holiday music from an open-air deck or the heated cabin.

Passengers can board at Regatta Park. For an even more exciting adventure, take an Oklahoma Spirit Trolley for free to the boarding area. The Oklahoma Spirit Trolleys are free throughout Downtown in December!

Downtown in December is organized by Downtown Oklahoma City Incorporatedor. For a complete schedule of all Downtown activities and special events, log on to or call the Downtown in December hotline (405) 236-3640 or 1-888-OKC4Fun.
