Visitors to Oklahoma City have the opportunity to enjoy the nation’s finest contemporary Western art during the National Cowboy & Western Heritage Museum® annual Prix de West Invitational Art Exhibition and Sale. Through September 11, the Prix de West exhibition will showcase more than 300 works of art by 99 artists and will attract art collectors and art lovers from around the world. The participating artists bring a unique set of artistic and cultural influences and background to their paintings, drawings and sculptures. Subject matter captures the culture of the West, from frontier experiences and historical moments in time, to landscapes, wildlife, the multi-cultural people of the West, and always, the cowboy lifestyle. During the opening weekend, the Prix de West Purchase Award, the highest art award the Museum bestows, is given to an artist whose work has been selected for purchase by the Museum to enhance its Prix de West art collection. Included in the exhibition will be works by 15 past winners of the prestigious Prix de West Purchase Award. They include Gerald Balciar, George Carlson, Scott L. Christensen, Michael Coleman, Tim Cox, Richard Greeves, Martin Grelle, Bob Kuhn, Morris Rippel, Lowell Ellsworth Smith, Tucker Smith, Morgan Weistling, Jim Wilcox, Hollis Williford and William Acheff.
