Surrounded by enormous hand-painted murals, intricately carved statues, lush greenery and the soothing sounds of a bubbling fountain, dining at Abuelo’s Mexican Food Embassy restaurant is like taking a trip to interior Mexico. With two locations in Oklahoma City at 17 E. Sheridan in Bricktown and at 3001 W. Memorial Road in North OKC, Abuelo’s provides a delightful combination of authentic Mexican cuisine and impressive art.

From the moment you step through the elegant front doors, you can sense the restaurant’s true Mexican spirit – from the host’s graciousness to the elegant design and presentation of the menu. Abuelo’s, which blends the best of Mexico through art and fine dining, is famous for its creative Mexican cuisine and superior service.

Dining at Abuelo’s is similar to dining at upscale restaurants in Mexico City or other Mexican destinations. Instead of the stereotypical sombreros and piñatas, Abuelo’s features an artistic interior that fully complements its authentic Mexican menu. Background music is soft and contemporary, providing guests with a relaxing and enjoyable dining experience.

The Abuelo’s restaurants are designed as open-air Mexican courtyards to replicate the Mexican style of service that is perfect for business entertaining, as well as family celebrations or a romantic dinner for two. The Bricktown restaurant features three private dining areas that can be reserved for meetings or catered dinner functions. This restaurant can also accommodate large groups that may be in town for conventions or special events.

The statues throughout Abuelo’s are hand carved by artists in the villages around Guadalajara, Mexico. Since Abuelo’s is Spanish for "grandfather" or "respected elder statesman," many of the statues are representations of respected leaders and important figures in Mexican history. The restaurants’ walls are adorned with sweeping interpretations of murals painted in Mexico from 1920 to 1940 by famous Mexican muralists including Diego Rivera, Jose Clemente Orozoco and David Alfaro Siquieros, whose works became art for the common man.

Abuelo’s menu, which includes a number of creative specialties as well as more traditional items, reflects an innovative approach to Mexican food. Abuelo’s House Specialties, which combine beef tenderloin, jumbo shrimp, mahi mahi, salmon and other specially selected ingredients with unique sauces and side dishes, have earned Abuelo’s a reputation for "raising the bar" of Mexican food restaurants. The menu also features a number of traditional items including 11 different enchilada choices, fajitas, chile rellenos, quesadillas, chimichangas and carne asada. Desserts include Abuelo’s award-winning traditional Mexican flan and margarita pie with tequila cream, among others.
Abuelo’s specialty side dishes include “papas con chile,” a delectable Mexican potato casserole, "espinaca," a creamy spinach casserole, “calabacitas ranchera” a delicious combination of sliced squash and onions baked in a fresh ranchera sauce and "green chile torta de huevo,” a green chile stuffed with cheese and baked in an egg soufflé. Desserts include Abuelo’s award-winning traditional Mexican flan, margarita pie with tequila cream sauce, dulce de le leche cheesecake and others.

A visit to Abuelo’s is like a taking a trip to interior Mexico. The atmosphere is relaxing and elegant, and the food is delicious. The Abuelo’s bar is an ideal place for drinks before or after dinner, and features an extensive collection of wines and fine tequilas.
