It’s back! Dale Chihuly: The Exhibition, the show that helped open the new Museum two years ago this week, is reopening April 1 and the Museum and the public can’t wait! The Oklahoma City Museum of Art is now home to the largest, most comprehensive Dale Chihuly collection in the world. Dale Chihuly: The Exhibition represents over three decades of Chihuly’s finest work and heralds this brilliant luminist as the most important artist working in glass since Louis Comfort Tiffany. The show features a wide range of his work in glass from single objects to large-scale sculpture and installations. Created specifically for the Oklahoma City Museum of Art’s opening in 2002, Dale Chihuly: The Exhibition received unprecedented attendance, sparking public interest in the arts and the Museum’s campaign to purchase the exhibit for $3M—The Chihuly Project. The reinstallation of the exhibit celebrates the culmination of this Project. Chihuly was commissioned to create one of his most elaborate pieces entitled the Eleanor Blake Kirkpatrick Memorial Tower. The sculpture was funded by the Beaux Arts Committee. The 55' tall glass sculpture is Chihuly’s tallest creation and sits in a 14x14 foot black granite reflecting pool. The impressive multi-colored tower was created as a signature piece for the three-story atrium of the museum and is comprised of 2,400 individually hand-blown glass parts. The Tower is also visible from outside the museum, unmistakably declaring the building as a place for art. The Oklahoma City Museum of Art is open Tuesday through Saturday 10-5 pm, Thursdays until 9 pm and Sundays noon-5 pm. For information, call (405) 236-3100. Museum Cafe hours are Tuesday-Saturday, 11a-10p. Sunday brunch, 11a-3p. Closed Mondays. (405) 235-6262.
