KEY Oklahoma City

Oklahoma City was born in a single day - April 22, 1889, when the area known as the Unassigned Lands in Oklahoma Territory was opened for settlement. In just over 100 years, this collection of tents grew to a metropolitan city of nearly one million inhabitants. The pioneer zeal of those early settlers is just as evident in the Oklahoma City of today.

If you want to see a little of the real West of today, mosey on down to Stockyards City, a few minutes west of downtown. Home to the world’s largest stocker/feeder livestock market, Stockyards City is the "genuine article" and a "must see" when visiting Oklahoma City. You won't find any "My parents went to Stockyard City and all I got was this lousy T-shirt" shirts or Elvis salt and pepper shakers but you will leave knowing what a real steak tastes like, and that real boots don't come from Bloomingdale's.

A ‘must do’ in the Stockyards is Cattlemen’s Steakhouse, Oklahoma’s oldest continually operating restaurant. After a great steak, take time to browse the western wear and specialty shops lining the streets, complete with jeans (Wranglers is the brand of choice), hats, dusters, spurs and belt buckles the size of hubcaps. A popular destination for visitors to the Stockyards is McClintock’s, located in the heart of the Stockyards District at 2227 Exchange.

McClintock’s offers a wide selection of handcrafted boots, belts, buckles and classic western wear and accessories.

From the minute you slip your feet into a pair of McClintock handcrafted boots, you’ll know why they have set the standard for western boots—quality. From the doe-skin lining to the exotic, hand-lasted leather and skins, from the leather insole to the steel shank and wooden tacks—you just can’t build a better boot.

Martin Villegas Terrones, who crafts the boots of Mexico’s President Vicente Fox, is the custom boot cobbler for McClintock. If you don’t see what you’re looking for in their large inventory, Martin will custom build boots to your specifications—but don’t be in a hurry—the president comes first.

In addition to boots, the McClintock Heritage Collection features superior quality western wear for ladies and gentlemen, with clothing crafted from suede, doe skin and cowhide. Sterling silver buckles and buckle sets and sterling silver jewelry, handcrafted by Native Americans, are the perfect accessories for quality minded cowboy. If you can't find what you need off the shelf, their highly skilled artisans are ready to custom make whatever you need.

The western spirit that helped found OKC is alive and well at McClintock's in the Stockyards District. Located one mile south of I-40 at Agnew, visitor’s can take advantage of the Metro Transit Orange Line Trolley, which operates on an hourly schedule, traveling between the Meridian Avenue hotels and Brick town, with stops in the Stockyards.
