Hang on tight. From the cockpit of a GT racecar you are about to careen through a death-defying turn at 200 mph. On a hushed track, you explode from the blocks in a sprint that launches you into human-powered propulsion. Balanced on a mountain bike atop a plunging cliff, you hang on for the ultimate downhill descent of your life. Focus, power, and acceleration beyond your wildest dreams – it’s all done in the name of chasing the absolute limits of human speed. This is the high-adrenaline world captured in Top Speed, a fast-paced, light-hearted and at times hair-raising look at the science of speed and why and how humans keep going faster and faster. Using the world’s largest film format and immersive OmniDome Theater technology, Top Speed enters the lives of four uncommonly fast individuals who take daring risks, go to new extremes and push the science of performance beyond the limits in the never-ending pursuit of ultimate velocity. Among them are five-time Olympic medalist Marion Jones, mountain biking champ Marla Streb, rising racecar sensation Lucas Luhr and high performance car designer Stephen Murkett. Audiences will also meet blind eleven-year-old junior bobsledder, Blaise Bryant, who dreams of one day racing in the Olympics. By capturing some of the world’s fastest men and women with IMAX camera technology, Top Speed literally surrounds the audiences in the adrenaline-pumping sensations of speed. From the drama of competitors pushing through pain and fear to attain victory, to the fascinating facts of how friction and acceleration help lead to awe-inspiring world records, Top Speed reveals everything it takes to achieve speeds that once seemed impossible.
Adding a new comic dimension to the classic giant screen experience, Top Speed has its very own tour guide: popular film and television star Tim Allen, who invites audiences to join him on a fun-filled, thoughtful introduction to life as a speed-demon. As he meets each of these world-class athletes and racing professionals on their own turf, Allen gets a chance to run, jump, steer and fly with the best of them. Humor and wit ride hand-in-hand with experience as Tim explores the intense physical conditioning, single-pointed concentration, well-honed skills and cutting-edge technology required to attain the highest achievements in foot power, pedal power and rocket power, and reveals how speed is created as much in the mind and the heart as by bodies and machines. OmniDome Theater is located in the heart of Oklahoma’s Adventure District at 2100 NE 52nd Street in Oklahoma City. Call (405) 602-DOME for pricing and show times. Current
